NO to Ballan Puppy Factory – VCAT’s Outrageous Decision

Last week VCAT (Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal) made an outrageous decision giving the go ahead for Robert Attard’s proposed puppy factory in Ballan, ignoring objections from Moorabool Shire Council, Barwon Water, animal groups and over 1300 objectors!

A year ago the Moorabool Shire Council and Barwon Water rejected Robert Attard’s application to build a puppy factory in Ballan. Thank you to the many ALV supporters who objected to this cruel permit application.

We now need as many people as possible to help reverse this deplorable decision by VCAT. Please take action and write to the Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu and Planning Minister Matthew Guy.

Dear Premier Baillieu,

I am writing to express my outrage over VCAT’s decision in approving Robert Attard’s proposal to build a puppy factory in Ballan despite the Moorabool Shire Council and Barwon Water rejecting the application last year, not to mention the overwhelming opposition from over 1300 objectors including the local community, neighbours, as well as animal groups.

You have publicly spoken out against puppy farms and gave a strong commitment to animal welfare when your government was elected, now is the time to honour these commitments and investigate why VCAT made this decision against such strong opposition.

Your immediate attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Minister Guy,

I am writing to express my outrage over VCAT’s decision in approving Robert Attard’s proposal to build a puppy factory in Ballan despite the Moorabool Shire Council and Barwon Water rejecting the application last year, not to mention the overwhelming opposition from over 1300 objectors including the local community, neighbours, as well as animal groups.

Moorabool Shire Council rejected the proposal on grounds that it did not comply with a range of guidelines including the animal keeping act, farming zones, noise limits and wastewater treatment and removal. As Planning Minister I strongly urge you to investigate VCAT’s decision for reversing Council’s judgement and why the objectors’ strong opposition was not taken into account.

Your immediate attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.

Yours sincerely,

So many dogs already out their waiting for new homes and so many more are being put down every day. Please stop the puppy farms, poor dogs are breeding machines and get no human love.

In the face of all the facts about inhumane puppy farms, this one has been permitted. Why? It’s 2011, we are supposedly an educated community. Why are we still exploiting and abusing animals for money?
